How to properly replace your Toshiba Business Telephone

This article is focused on replacing an existing Toshiba Business Telephone. If your company does not currently own a Toshiba Business Telephone System and are interested in learning more it, please click here.

Toshiba Business Telephone Systems use interchangeable phones which makes replacing your phone easy. The only exceptions are EKT telephones and IPT telephones. The EKT phones are the oldest of the telephones and are mostly out of circulation. The IPT telephones are special IP telephones for VoIP solutions. This tutorial is going to focus on the DKT family of phones that are most commonly in use today.

How do I know what kind of phone I have? There is a sticker on the back of the phone from the manufacturer that describes the model of the phone. Flip over your telephone and look for a sticker that is labeled resembling “DKT3020.” Refer to the pictures below for a visual example.

The phone in the example is a white “DKT3010-SD.” For our purposes, we are only concerned with the “DKT” portion. If your phone contains “DKT” it can be interchanged with any other “DKT” phone.

Flip your phone back over and take a look at how many programmable buttons you have. These are the buttons on the far right of your phone. Looking at the phones below, the left phone has 20 buttons and the right has 10.

The phones above are interchangeable but there is one thing to watch out for. When a 20 button phone is replaced with a 10 button, the new phone will only support the programming for the left 10 buttons on your original phone. The system will not delete any programming so if you replace the phone again with a 20 button phone, all of your buttons will still be functional.

If you replace your 10 button phone with a 20 button phone, your programmed buttons will be functional and will be the left set of 10. The right set of 10 buttons, will need programming in the system from an authorized Toshiba dealer to be functional. If you would like to contact an authorized Toshiba dealer, click here.

Besides these two exceptions, the DKT family of phones are completely interchangeable. If you would like more information on Toshiba telephones, click here.
